Little Speed Bumb on the Road to Recovery
Ethan had a minor setback with his recovery today, so we are still at the hospital. When Ethan had his surgery they installed a Foley Catheter to drain his bladder. Yesterday, he was doing so well they decided to remove the catheter. When they removed it he began to have some swelling that made it very painful to urinate or have a bowel movement. At 3 and 11 am today they put a straight catheter in to drain his bladder and relieve pressure, to help with pain. The doctor said that this was very common when this type of surgery is performed. The nurses were getting ready to put in another Foley Catheter in at 6pm to give Ethan's bladder a rest, when all of a sudden, he started peeing all over the nurses!!! So since 6pm Ethan has been urinating and having normal bowel movements and his swelling seems to going down. Ethan has only been taking Tylenol since yesterday (we took him off everything else, even T3) and seems to be tolerating his pain very well. We are staying overnight again for observation, but if Ethan is on a normal diet, tolerating his pain and having normal urination and bowel movements (which he is doing all of these as of 10pm) then he should be released pretty soon. We are in no hurry to get home because we want Ethan to be in perfect condition before we go home. Thanks to everyone that has been praying for Ethan and the visitors we have had. We love you all!!!!

He's going to do great. I know he'll be going home soon. Be careful on your way home and give him a kiss for us.
