The above three words came from Ethan's pedeatric urologist shortly after surgery. Abdominalplasty, reimplantation of the ureter and excise of the diverticulum were all three done with great success. Surgery lasted for about 8 hours, a little longer than expected but Ethan's doctor took his time to make sure everything was perfect.
Recovery is the next step and will be the hardest. Ethan will probably be in the hospital for about a week if everything goes according to plan. Pray. Ethan and mommy are currently sleeping while daddy is the pain medicine advisor.
One thing that I have learned from all of the experince we have had in hospitals and with doctors, it is: Be your childs voice! Just because they are a doctor or nurses does not mean that they know what is best for YOUR child. We have not had any issues during this stay but in previous visits we have. Educate yourself on your childs needs and voice this to the doctors and nurses. Believe me when I tell you this - Lisa and I TELL the doctors what to do, not the other way around. Just figured I would throw that out there....
So when we had the nurse lift up Ethans shirt we got emotional for two reasons. One reason is that his belly or absence of a belly looks amazing! High Five Dr. Kaefer!!!! The second reason is that we are going to miss that belly, it was our favorite part of his body.
Other than the drainage tubes, cathater, IV and oxygen mask, Ethan looks really good. As long as we stay ahead of the pain we should be on a good road to recovery. Can you believe that kids Ethans age recover faster than we do? They want Ethan moving around normal as early as TOMORROW!!!!!
Thanks again for everything you do........
